About the Laurel Springs School Chapter of the National Honor Society

Laurel Springs School has a history of association with “United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)” (www.unep.org) and the Global 500 Laureates (see About Global 500). We have an ongoing commitment to supporting communications between these environmental associations. Being a Global 500 Laureate ourselves, it was a natural step for us to offer our students the opportunity to learn about and to be a part of global environmental leadership through the Laurel Springs School Chapter of the National Honor Society. By participating in Leaders4Earth you are participating in our school project: mentoring global environmental leaders and contributing to global environmental solutions through UNEP affiliated organizations.

About the National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is a long-established cornerstone of America’s education system. Those invited into its membership have demonstrated scholarship, character, leadership and commitment to service. The NHS requires both a School Project and a Personal Service Project.

For its School Project, the Laurel Springs School Chapter offers the Leaders4Earth course. For their Personal Service Project, students can design and implement their own course of service and leadership in action.

Anywhere in the world, our members can take action to demonstrate their own environmental heroism. Laurel Springs students who accept the challenge to participate in global environmental leadership are guided by the four lessons in the Leaders4Earth online course. The 2007 course will focus on climate change—the 2007 theme of the United Nations Environment Programme.

An induction ceremony in Southern California is held every year to celebrate and honor Laurel Springs NHS members. Members and their families anticipate this ceremony with excitement and attend with a keen sense of privilege. Those who cannot be present in person are inducted by teleconference.

Inquiries regarding the Laurel Springs School Chapter of the National Honor Society should be addressed to the NHS Advisor at Laurel Springs School.

We welcome all to participate and to become environmental heroes.
